Pirouettes, Pastries and a Party!
Ballet Kelowna is kicking off their 10th Anniversary season with an exciting program of traditional and modern ballet and a Backstage Bash!
The fall performance, Double Variations presents a program of contrasts and collaborations: good versus evil in Swan Lake's White Swan and Black Swan pas de deux, a battle of ballerina egos, and a world premiere from two of Vancouver's most exciting choreographic talents.
Inspired by the co-choreographed Lignes et Points, the program is highlighted by the world premiere of Double Variations, which has been co-choreographed by two of Vancouver's most dynamic choreographic talents: Simone Orlando and Joe Laughlin.
Following the last pirouette from our professional dancers, another professional takes the stage at our Backstage Bash. Lucky ticket holders to the Backstage Bash, will be treated to pastries from star pastry chef Arthur Chen of the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort. With 25 years of industry experience in his native China, the US and then Canada, Chen combines Asian, American and European influences in his highly intricate, beautifully crafted pastries, chocolates, confectionary and centerpieces. Chen has created pastry masterpieces for Her Majesty the Queen, and was selected to paint a sugar-and-cocoa centerpiece of President Bill Clinton as a welcome gift from Vancouver's Pan Pacific Hotel. He's also competed and won gold at the Culinary Olympics and is admired worldwide for his creativity. Working closely with the team at the Delta Grand Okanagan, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy this acclaimed chefs pastries along with delicious wines from award winning Quails' Gate Estate Winery and beer from our friends at Tree Brewing.
Backstage Bash guests will not only be able to satisfy their sweet tooth, but will have the opportunity to meet our eight young dancers, our founding Artistic Director David LaHay and our guest choreographers Simone Orlando and Joe Laughlin along with the who's who of the arts scene in the Okanagan. It's a great opportunity to get behind the scenes with this ballet company as it celebrates its 10th Anniversary and show your support for the arts in the Okanagan.
Backstage Bash tickets are $110 and include the Friday night performance. Tickets are available at BalletKelowna.ca
Double Variations is presented by the Thomas Alan Budd Foundation.
