Ballerina brings "Passion" to her Kamloops hometown for Valentine's Day

BALLERINA BRINGS PASSION TO HER KAMLOOPS HOMETOWN FOR VALENTINE'S DAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (KELOWNA, BC) -

When Ballet Kelowna arrives in Kamloops on February 12th with their latest production A Grand Passion, this professional dance company will include Kamloops native, Christina Cecchini.

Christina Cecchini began her ballet training in Kamloops and at the age of 14, was accepted into the Professional Ballet program at Canada's National Ballet School. After studying ballet around the world she returned to BC to begin her professional career with Ballet Kelowna. Now in her fourth year with the company, Cecchini says "Ballet Kelowna has given me many amazing opportunities over the past few years but none of them are rewarding as performing for my friends and family in Kamloops".

With perfect timing for Valentine's Day, A Grand Passion includes a mosaic of works from the classical to the contemporary. From the great ballet traditions of the 19th Century, through the sultry tango bars of Argentina, to the impassioned and tragic love story of Romeo & Juliet - this program will take the audience on a journey through ballet history.

Dances include the magnificent and technically challenging choreography of the pas de trios from Allegro Per Tre and the pas de deux from the romantic Sleeping Beauty, an invigorating look into the sultry dance of love and passion in Tangazzo, and the story of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet Appassionata. Rounding out the program is the 2011 commissioned contemporary ballet north shore, by Montreal choreographer Shawn Hounsell, an avant-garde work of intense physicality and passion juxtaposed against the deep and complex music of British composer Gavin Bryars.  This night of passionate dance and music is a great date night for Valentine's Day.

Ballet Kelowna is kicking off its 10-city tour of A Grand Passion in Kamloops on Sunday, February 12th at the Sagebrush Theatre at 7:30 pm. After sold-out performances of The Nutcracker in 2010, Ballet Kelowna is returning to this enthusiastic community and with one of the dancers a Kamloops native, it adds a boost to the excitement.

"Ballet Kelowna is proud to share its passion with audiences everywhere with dance that speaks to the hopes and dreams inside each of us and I know these emotionally moving works will live long in your hearts." states Ballet Kelowna's Artistic Director David LaHay.

One of Canada's ten professional ballet companies, Ballet Kelowna is a dedicated community partner committed to inspire, educate and entertain through the energy and artistry of ballet. Capturing the entertainment interest of all members of the family, Ballet Kelowna enhances the image of ballet, making the art form more inviting, fun and personally meaningful.
