New Ballet "Falcon's Trumpet" to be performed with OSO

David LaHay is putting the finishing touches on a new ballet set to "The Falcon's Trumpet".  The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Kelowna will share the stage in an uplifting performance of  this signature work by renowned Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer.  This creative collaboration premieres in the Okanagan Valley on Fri. Oct. 21 @ 8 PM at  KCT and Sun. Oct. 23 @ 7 PM at Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre.

This piece for trumpet and orchestra plays with the relationship of sound and space.  Inspired by birds of prey in flight, Schafer places the orchestra in unusual configurations with a semicircle of players on stage and small groups of players backstage and throughout the audience which opens the stage for dancers.

Commissioned by VDPAC with funds from Canada Council and made possible with a project grant from City of Kelowna, Central Okanagan Foundaiton and Hamber Foundation.

"Breaking Boundaries looks fantastic."

"I just wanted to let each of you know that today we did our first studio run of the program and it looks fantastic. Each piece is different from the others, each has its own qualities and integrity and the dancers give it more than 100%. The journey has not been without its challenges of course, and is by no means over, but Ballet Kelowna is looking so very fine, the new dancers fitting in admirably well, and I am certain the audience reception will be overwhelming, spontaneous and heartfelt.
