Performance Series Program

Come join and be a part of the brand-new Performance Series Program (PSP), a new extension of our IN MOTION Adult Dance Program! The PSP program provides participants training classes in ballet and contemporary designed to develop your skills as a dancer, build your performance confidence, and give you the experience working directly with a professional rehearsal director or choreographer.

The Performance Series Program will run for two terms from September to December and from January through early May. This program will culminate with participants having the opportunity to perform alongside Ballet Kelowna in a World Premiere at the Kelowna Community Theatre on May 14 & 15, 2027.

Performance Series Program - Fall Term

11 Session Term: Fridays
September 18 - December 11, 2026
Time: 6:30pm-8:00pm

Instructor: Joanna Lige and Guest Company Instructors

As a participant, you will develop your dance technique and knowledge further while getting the chance to learn existing Ballet Kelowna repertoire. The class will begin with a technique training class in ballet or contemporary, followed by skill building to assist in working with a choreographer and learning repertoire. This term offers adult dancers a unique performance opportunity to share what they have learned in a studio showing at the end of the term. This term is also geared towards preparing participants to take part in our Winter/Spring Term of the PSP by developing choreographic creation skills which are useful in the creative process. We recommend participants to have been previously enrolled in either the Beginner or Intermediate Ballet class level or equivalent dance training at a different studio.

14 Session Term: Fridays + Additional Rehearsals
January 8 - May 15, 2027
Time: 6:30pm-8:00pm

Instructor: Joanna Lige & Guest Company Instructors

As a participant, you will develop your dance technique and knowledge further while participating alongside Ballet Kelowna dancers in a creative process with choreographer, Alyssa Martin, where the brand-new work will be performed as part of Ballet Kelowna’s 2026/27 season closing production, Double Take on May 14 & 15, 2027 at the Kelowna Community Theatre. The regular classes will begin with a technique training class in ballet or contemporary, followed by skill building to assist in working with a choreographer and learning repertoire. Later in the term, the classes will evolve into rehearsal time for the new work with a rehearsal director.

About Alyssa Martin and the New Work
Ontario-based choreographer Alyssa Martin draws inspiration from Harold Lander’s 1948 ballet Études in a lively new creation that reimagines classical technique. With a distinctive background in contemporary dance, musical theatre, and absurdism, Martin cleverly dismantles conventions to reveal the individuality of each performer. Blending humour, vulnerability, and virtuosic movement, this joyful new work embodies authenticity, connection, and the evolving language of ballet.

We recommend participants to have been previously enrolled in either the Beginner or Intermediate Ballet class level or equivalent dance training at a different studio.

In addition to the regular scheduled technique classes, there will be choreographic rehearsals from February through April and production rehearsals leading up to the performances on May 14 & 15, 2027. Below are the dates and times for the additional rehearsals.
